Across the nation, parents are struggling with the lack of housing options for their adult children with autism.

The CDC reported that approximately 1 in 44 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Despite being the fastest-growing developmental disability in the United States, adults with autism remain underserved in community construction plans. Over the next decade, an estimated 707,000 – 1,116,000 teens will enter adulthood with few residential options.

This lack of appropriate residential options for autistic adults is at crisis levels. Today, the vast majority reside with their parents. However, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) needs vary per individual and not all families are equipped to house an autistic adult, particularly as parents age or pass away.

nxplace Properties® recognizes that those with ASD will live a more fulfilled life when specific design considerations are factored into their needs.

For example, autism’s sensory issues can involve both over-responsiveness and under-responsiveness to a wide range of stimuli. These can involve:

  • Sights
  • Sounds
  • Smells
  • Taste
  • Touch
  • Balance
  • Body Awareness

Personalized Service

We understand that many people on the spectrum are hyper-sensitive to bright lights or certain light wavelengths such as fluorescent lights. We also understand the importance of furniture arrangements that reduce chances of bumping into sharp or hard surfaces. Yet each person with autism is unique and this includes their personal sensitivities. Only nxplace Properties is nimble enough to respond to such personalized needs.
